Draft Day Team-by-Team Analysis
Black Sox:
The returning champs are under new management for the 2009 season and GM Kenny Kolquist
will be relying on a young pitching staff to help the Black Sox earn there 11th
championship in 14 years. They lack an experienced catcher and may be abused on the
bases if the Blues and Gold Hawks decide to make it a track meet. The Black Sox defense
is experienced and their offense should not have trouble scoring runs this fall if their
speedsters can get on base.
Blues:
After losing major contributors from last year’s team, the Blues and GM Tom Berrisford worked hard
last night to put a competitive team on the field. Their starting infield is the youngest in the
league and will be asked to make plays for a pitching staff that was rebuilt with freshmen and
free-agent signings. The outfield will be quick and should be able to chase down all the gap shots
that the pitching staff might give up.
Gold Hawks:
The Gold Hawks, having won only one SFL title in the league 14 year history, took giant steps
towards winning their second title. GM Justin Harriman’s draft was filled with rookies who
will make an immediate impact. Their pitching staff may be the only weakness; it includes
six rookies, but if the top of their order can get on base, and the middle of the order
gets pitches to hit, the Gold Hawks to soar to the top of the SFL in 2009!
