2010 Draft Day Team-by-Team Analysis
Gold Hawks:
The Gold Hawks, last fall's favorite to win the SFL Championship, rolled through their competition
and walked away with the SFL Cup. Repeating as champions this fall will be much more difficult,
because they return only five players from last year's championship team. But the Gold Hawks do
have the ability to make another run for the Cup with David Vogelgesang leading their talented
pitching staff and a potentially potent offense that includes Brandon Peterson. Although their
ultimate success or failure may depend upon a rebuilt defense and three rookies; Tyler Henderson,
Andy Davis, and Colin Moberly who will be asked to contribute immediately.
Black Sox:
After dominating the SFL during the last 15 years and winning 11 championships, the Black
Sox have won only one championship since 2006. This fall they will be led by three
seniors, Joey Link, Brian Marshik, and Andy Manos, who will be motivated to return the
Black Sox to dominance. The Black Sox are the most dangerous team offensively and should
be very strong defensively, but their pitching staff lacks experience and includes five
sophomores and two freshmen. If their young pitchers can throw strikes and change speeds,
the Black Sox could win number 12.
Blues:
Following a disappointing 2009 season, the once youthful Blues have grown up. Their
strength will be their pitching staff that includes veterans Matt Lewis and Josh Retka,
talented sophomores Kyle Jensen and Jake Nystrom, and also rookie southpaw Joe Sheeser.
The pitching could quickly become frustrated if the Blues unproven defensive alignment
is unable to play well behind them. Pitching and defense will be vital for the Blues to
compete for the Cup because their offense may struggle to produce runs with out a healthy
Griffin Bell or Scott Greening to start the season.
